Congratulations to our 2019 scholarship recipient:
SENIOR AT CAMERON HIGH SCHOOL
During #RoseFest 2018 we announced our first Taylor ‘Flip’ Finley Memorial Scholarship recipient, Shannon Padgett. Shannon is a Senior at Cameron High School and will graduate this May, 2019. She fiercely and bravely battled Ewing Sarcoma at the tender age of 16, and in January of last year was declared No Evidence of Disease. Shannon has shared her passion and dreams with us of becoming an Oncology nurse, so that one day, she can help kids in the same way she was helped. Shannon is passionate and goal driven. Even while receiving treatment, she continued with her studies at home, so that she could graduate with her peers. She is active in extracurricular activities, excelling in theatre and bio-med, among many other areas. We are honored to celebrate Shannon and all of her accomplishments, especially through the hardships she has overwhelming overcome.
Our scholarship was created in honor of our dear friend, Taylor ‘Flip’ Finely, who courageously battled Synovial Sarcoma and gained his wings at the age of 27. Even during the toughest battle of his life, he wanted to help children who were fighting cancer. Today, he continues to help children battling this disease, and we are forever thankful for the Finley family for allowing us to share his legacy and love for others in this capacity.
We would not be able to present Shannon with a scholarship totaling $5,000 without the support of TCC, Verizon, especially our TCC Sponsor, Brian Bickford, located right here in Cameron, Mo. Brian is active in our community in several different capacities, including assisting and volunteering for multiple nonprofit organizations in our area. In addition, he has started the Cameron Ball Association encouraging our youth to participate in sports at a young age. He and his wife Adrienne, have consistently gone above and beyond helping our organization with the planning and implementation of RoseFest, as well as other activities throughout the year. TCC Verizon supplies all of our technology needs for our major events. Brian, Adrienne and TCC believe in empowering the community through volunteer efforts, supporting and encouraging our youth, as well as monetary grants through the #TCCGives program.
